I used to be a JW that followed the rules and could never understand why it was so difficult for others. Now I'm on the other side and I am that guy. I like the other side...

JW Apolgist rant here...and confession.
by Julia Orwell ini really don't like people disparaging active jws on this site by calling them stupid, idiots, morons and that, and making out like they're willing puppets to the gb or cruel at heart.
or describing them like they're puke or as having no desire to learn or listen.. to you, all these things may be true.
we all have opinions and are entitled to them.

You're not replacing his mom.
He's seeking you out maybe because you can relate to him in this particular aspect. That's life.
I feel no guilt. I feel like my eyes have been opened. Would I feel guilty if I found out that the world is round when everyone else thinks it's flat?

Here's how you reveal the reason:
You heard from a not-so-reliable source that he did such and such. Of course, you find this hard to believe and don't think it's true. ;)
Don't say the name. Let someone else do it. That way if anyone tries to tie the name and reason together you can always claim the rumor that you had heard was in regards to someone else.

Barbara Anderson has some great stuff about this on her site, including:
- The scanned newspaper article ffrom the Tacoma Reporter
- The actual letter that Bruce Baker sent to the city of Tacoma exposing the scandal
- The letter from the Watchtower with the "suggested" donation amounts (it uses the term "do not deviate from these suggested contribution amounts")
- The Tacoma Dome rental rates
This was one of the first things that really started to wake me up. I couldn't figure out how the organization, that I thought of in high regard, could do something like this. Now it all makes sense.

I have a question about this: Are you supposed to be aware that you are in the moment? For instance, I usually check to make sure I hear silence and am aware of my breathing in two areas (chest and nostrils for example). Or I can actually focus on my breathing.
So I guess my question is do I want to be aware of my breathing or focus on my breathing?

I just looked at the story. I didn't realize that it was CHILD PORN that we were talking about.
The guy bought the guns ahead of time, he waited for her to go to work, and then hid the evidence and hoped nobody would find out. It was premeditated. This isn't a case of a temporary emotional state.

There's a lot of people that watch pornography that don't kill anybody. He probably played violent video games too?
The fact is that he did a terrible thing and deserves to die.
This also makes me wonder: How exactly would someone define what a "pornography problem" is? At what point is it a problem?

How to create a new social life
by Wide Awake! ini grew up as a witness, but it's been a few years since i've been to a meeting.. i'm having trouble being social and making new friends.
i've moved away from the town that i grew up in (about 45 minutes away) and, although i'm not df'ed, i've lost track of my old friends after they found out i wasn't attending anymore.
you guys know how it is.. i'm self-employed, extremely introverted, and have kind of isolated myself for a while.

Hi. I'm new here. I grew up as a witness, but it's been a few years since I've been to a meeting.
I'm having trouble being social and making new friends. I've moved away from the town that I grew up in (about 45 minutes away) and, although I'm not DF'ed, I've lost track of my old friends after they found out I wasn't attending anymore. You guys know how it is.
I'm self-employed, extremely introverted, and have kind of isolated myself for a while. This has been good for me in a way because I've been able to get to know myself. One of the reasons that I quit going to meetings was because I realized that I was doing it for other people, they expected it from me, rather than going because I wanted to. Isolating myself has helped to figure out what I want to do- not doing what others want me to do.
Right now I have a few friends and most are married. I've even thought about going back because of the instant social life, but I know there's no way I could ever do it now that my eyes are wide open.
So what have you guys done? How did you get started meeting people?

How to fade
by allyouneedislove inhypothetically speaking:.
if a baptized jw is moving to a new city a little less than an hour away from the current congregation, what is the best way to fade?
my family will be attending regularly.

I faded after moving to a new city, but I didn't plan in advance to do it, it just happened.
If you don't want your publisher card sent, move to the next town and never attend a meeting. But since you mentioned your parents will be involved from time to time, I'm guessing that isn't an option.
When I moved, I was a MS and the elders later sent a raving letter of recommendation. Since I was burned out, I deliberately kept my hours low so I wouldn't be immediately appointed by the CO when he came around. I wanted a break. As it turned out I never got my hours back on track and eventually became inactive. It's been years since I've been to a meeting.
If you attend meetings I don't think you can do anything about the letter. Billy's post above has an interesting scenario, but if you get caught doing it, you'll be in trouble for sure.
